If you have read my article on Maca Root powder (article here) or chocolate with Maca (article here) you know that I have recently found this miraculous food and have been eager to try it in different ways.
Since the weather has been getting colder, even here in Southern California, the mornings are grey and cold. I have naturally turned to hot chocolate. I love hot chocolate, but never liked the prepared versions, they always made my stomach growl and feel like someone deposited an air tank into it J Anyhow, writing and spending a lot of time home I have been getting back to normal way of eating, meaning using less and less commercially prepared foods and making things from scratch. Here is my recent love, I have been drinking it each morning and sometimes also at night. This hot chocolate is super tasty and healthy.
Ingredients:
1 tsp of Maca Root Powder (I use Navitas Naturals brand, but others can be used just as well.)
1 tbsp of Unsweetened Cocoa Powder (I use Trader Joe’s, it only has one ingredient and tastes great)
1 cup of boiling water
½ cup of frothed milk (if you do not have a milk frother, substitute warm milk, adding cold milk will make the drink cooler)
3-4 whole cardamon seeds – break the shells and grind the contents, the whole seeds are much more aromatic and flavorful than powder version)
1 tsp of cinnamon
1 tsp of nutmeg
1 tsp of curcumin (I use this wonderful spice in pretty much everything)
1 tsp of raw honey
A bit of paprika or chilly pepper for additional warmth.
Thoroughly mix all of the ingredients aside from frothed or warmed milk. Add milk and sprinkle with a bit more of cinnamon. Enjoy!
