Hi, my name is Lana, and I live in sunny San Diego, CA. I was born and raised in Russia. My Mom and I lived in St. Petersburg, Russia until I was 15, when we moved to St. Louis, MO. It was a big culture shock, coming from a large busy city to a small but welcoming Mid West. People would say hello to us on our morning walk and we couldn't understand how they knew us. Well, they didn't but they were just being sweet and we were so not used to that. St. Petersburg like New York or any other large city is beautiful and grand but cold and non personal at times. Having so many millions of people living there, no one bothers to stop and say hello to each other.
I received my Bachelor's Degree in Business Management and proceeded to obtain my J.D. and passing the California Bar. I worked as a business and construction litigator for six years. Was laid off while recovering from a surgery that was necessitated by the medical condition that was worstened by stress of my job and have been on the road of recovery, self understanding and fullfillment ever since.
My Husband and I got married a year and half ago and are expecting our first Little Baby is September. My Husband and I wanted to go to Europe before I got pregnant. So last year I started to research pregnancy related topics and read read read everything and anything I could get my hands on. I have always ate pretty well, but I had a surgery in the beginning of last year so I wanted to detox before getting pregnant. You can read more about my research and healthy recipies in my Healthy Lifestyle and Pregnancy section - click here. We decided to go to Europe in Dec and stay through the holidays and continue our trip in Jan 2014. I am still uploading the pictures for our vacation - click here. We also thought it would be pretty cool if I got pregnant on the trip and we would have a "European-made" baby. We were very lucky and fortunate and I am now growing our Italian-made Baby in my belly :). I am sharing some of my pregnancy experiences in my dairy - click here. I will also be writing a book on the pregnancy related topics.
We also have a little chihuahua puppy and two parakeets (Zeus and Loki). Our puppy's name is Tinky, and although Tinky is ten and half years old he is still a puppy. Don't ask me how that is possible, but he really is. With his tiny 4.7 lbs frame and playful nature it is impossible to believe that he is a middle aged dog. Although at times he definitely acts as though he is going through a midlife crisis and I have even thought of getting him a toy red corvette. Here are some of his pictures - click here.
My Husband is a trully amazing man. He is just perfect! Meeting and falling in love with him made me realize how important love is in our lives. And made me want to help others to find their soul mates. I am currently working on a book on this topic and hope to publish it soon.
I love to read, write, cook, dress up, walk in pretty places, exercise and dance. Dance for me is an expression of my soul. As a little girl I dreamed of being a ballerina. I was once accepted to Vaganova Ballet Academy in St. Petersburg, but because my family was moving at that time I never got a chance to go. After that I decided to try ballroom classes and one after another teachers were telling me that I had no talent to dance. At some point I gave up completely. Later one semester in college I needed an extra credit and saw a one credit course on South American History and Culture. I signed up for the class and it was one of the best things I ever did. The two sisters that taught it were Mexican. They taught us a little bit about the history of various countries in South America, a little bit about cultures, food and dance. When we got to the dance portion they told us that they weren't professionally trained dancers but salsa dancing was part of their culture and dancing was part of their souls. They played some music and showed us a couple of steps. I tried to follow and it was a lot of fun. One of the sisters told me that I moved very well and that I should dance. I told her of all my failed attempts at ballroom dancing and to my surprise it did not deter her. She said that I felt music really well but the choreography was what I couldn't get. And she was right. Next semester I signed up for Ballroom Dancing 101. I explained to the teacher my problem with choreography but told him that I can pick up the movement pretty well when the music is playing. He looked at me suspiciously and said "Let's see." He put on a cd with little snipets of various dance music, cha-cha, rhumba, mambo, tango and walz and started to lead me to dance each of them. To both of our surprises I was able to follow, not extremely well but well enough for him to ask me where I took classes before. When I told him I haven't, I became his "assistant" and he demonstrated new movements with me to the class. I took a few more classes after that and even got a chance to compete in small competition where I took first and second places for mambo. To this day, I can not understand the whole "One, two, three and one, two, three" way of teaching dance and look like a complete idiot when I try to dance to someone's counting. But once the beautiful music is on, my body starts to follow it.
As I already mentioned, I enjoy reading both fiction and non fiction. In my Gratitude and Attitude section (click here) I will be sharing some of the things I have learned in books I have been reading and people I've been meeting.
I am very excited and am looking forward to our journey together!
I am getting back into the groove of things, enjoying the second trimester and starting to post more recipies and diary entries.
